• Log Message: kernel: __ratelimit: x callbacks suppressed

  The `kernel: __ratelimit: x callbacks suppressed` is a kernel log message that indicates that a log message has been repeated. It is similar to the `last message repeated x times` They conserve log space by condensing multiple messages into one line. This message is not a problem on its own. If there are no other messages in the logs which indicate a problem, then there is nothing to worry about.

• Log Message: "EOF or Incorrect data received"

  No data or invalid data received from server.

• Log Message: "Connection Failed - Failed SSL negotiation"

  TCP connection ok, but the SSL_connect failed.

• Log Message: "Connection Failed - server unavailable"

  Machine is available but the application is not running (connection refused).

• Log Message: "Timeout waiting for connection"

  Probably only seen when checking "remote" machines, or if machine has just failed (ARP still valid).

• Log Message: "Connection Failed - unreachable host"

  There is no route to the host, machine is probably down, or a network failure.

• Log Message: "Timeout waiting for data"

  Connected, but server took too long to send back any data.

• Log Message: L7: Real Server Connect attempt failed (x.x.x.x:p->y.y.y.y:p)

  This message indicates that the server was unreachable for client connections even though the healthcheck is passing. This can be due to several factors. Most likely the healthcheck is not operating at a high enough level, the healthcheck considers the server up whereas in reality the server is not ready to accept connections. This can also happen if the server has just gone down and the healthcheck has not yet failed.

• Log Message: L7: Connection timed out (x.x.x.x:p->y.y.y.y:p->z.z.z.z:p)[0] (unconnected)

  "Unconnected" timeouts are a result of connection attempts which were not completed to the real server. LoadMaster has determined which real server should take the connection and has initiated a TCP connection to the server, however the server did not respond. This may be due to a failed real server which has not been marked as failed by the healthcheck. It could also be caused by a very slow response time.

• Log Message: L7: Connection timed out (x.x.x.x:p->y.y.y.y:p->z.z.z.z:p)[0] (connected)

  "Connected" timeouts indicate that the connection to the real server has been established and that data may have been transferred. The connection was disconnected because the idle timeout has been reached. This type of timeout is normal and is mostly the result of clients simply abandoning the connection.

• Log Message: L7: Connection timed out (x.x.x.x:p->y.y.y.y:p-><nodest>)[0] (waiting for initial client request)

  "Waiting for initial client request" occurs when the client connects but does not send any data. The client in question is x.x.x.x, the VS is y.y.y.y, the third address is the RS. In this case, the RS has not been selected, since there has been no data from the client that can be used to determine which to select.

• LoadMaster_Host_Name

  These messages are generated by the Syslog Daemon every 20 minutes of inactivity within the KEMP LoadMaster to highlight that the logging daemon is still running on the LoadMaster, for example:

• License Disallows Any Further Software Updates?

  This error refers to the current license on the unit. You can update the firmware on the LoadMaster if the unit is in support but will need to update the license first If support has been renewed recently, the unit may have the old support date. In this scenario, you must update the license on the unit using the online or offline licensing method. If the LoadMaster has access to the internet:

• Issue with Outlook timeouts using MAPI

  Outlooks clients are timing out when connecting to their exchange 2010 servers via the Loadmaster, or Outlook Clients are not responding when a CAS server fails. To correct this problem please perform the following.

• Perform ICMP ping.

  To perform ICMP ping on a Loadmaster a ping can be used to confirm connectivity to a real server or loadmaster default gateway or real server.

  To download log files to the load master and view the files on the load master. Go to System Configuration - Logging Options - Log Files Next go to downloads log files which provide a full copy of all log files. Under this you can view the boot, warning and system message by clicking on the individual buttons.

  To capture all the running processes running on the Loadmaster a PS command can be run. A PS will display the PPID’s of the processes running on the load master. Go to System Configuration – Logging Options – Log Files. Select Debug Options and select Perform a PS and select PS button. A new page will be displayed with the data from the PS.

• Meaning of ‘Loading linux..Not enough Memory to load the specified kernel boot:’ error message

  The error message below is cause by not having enough memory assigned to your Virtual Loadmaster. Access your HyperV or VMWare Virtual machine settings and allocate a minimum 512MB.

• SMTP/IMAP/POP can’t get a banner message

  Since SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4 all send a banner message before the client begins a request, Server Initiating Protocols must be set if the service operates at Layer 7. Please make sure this is set to the proper value.

• I can’t find the setting for Not Available Redirection

  Not Available Server and Not Available Redirect are mutually exclusive options. Both are ways of handling situations which would otherwise result in a downed virtual service. Not Available Server sends all traffic to that server without checking its health. Not Available Redirect instead replies to incoming requests with an error code and redirect URL or error message.

• My virtual service will be receiving a lot of traffic, in excess of 64,000 open connections. Is there anything I can do to avoid port exhaustion?

  LoadMaster may experience port exhaustion in cases of high load where the service is non-transparent. In these cases, you enable option to allow for additional IP addresses to be allotted to any specific virtual service that expects heavy traffic. In the WUI:
