Wowrack

Wowrack is an ISO 27001 certified provider of IT services based in Indonesia. They have been in business since 2001 and currently operate from office locations in Surabaya and Jakarta. They have nine global data centers - seven of which are in the USA, and two in the Asia Pacific region.

Wowrack provides public and private Cloud solutions, Data Center and Co-location infrastructure services, high-speed Internet connectivity via their Wownet subsidiary, Managed IT Services delivering both consultant advice and service delivery, as well as backup, Microsoft 365, mail services, plus general hosting and end-to-end security solutions. Support for applications running on the Microsoft Server stack (Exchange, SharePoint, Active Directory etc.) is also a core business stream for Wowrack.

The Challenge

As their business expanded, Wowrack ran into two issues:

1. There was a need to quickly deploy load balancers to boost performance and security for the applications that customers where hosting on Wowrack infrastructure and cloud services.
2. There was limited centralized management for the application delivery infrastructure, which made it hard to plan, deploy, monitor, and report on application performance, utilization, and security.

Wowrack evaluated solutions to address these issues. They settled on Kemp LoadMaster for point 1, and used Kemp 360 Central and Vision for point 2.

The Kemp Solution

Wowrack uses Kemp LoadMaster's running as virtual machines as their load balancer of choice. Using the Kemp RESTful API allowed them to automate the deployment process into workflows. After adopting LoadMaster, the average deployment time for each load balancer instance dropped from 4 hours to 5 minutes. LoadMaster instances can now be deployed and configured for specific customer applications.

To streamline management and to report on their application delivery infrastructure, Wowrack also selected and deployed Kemp 360 Central. The intuitive nature of Kemp 360 Central meant that it took less than a day for a single Wowrack engineer to deploy and integrate it into their existing systems and applications.

Kemp support services helped Wowrack deliver their successful load balancer solution. Wowrack CIO Rudy Setiawan commented that issues were resolved quickly and that dealing with Kemp support was very easy.

The End Result

Wowrack now has a load balancing solution that allows specific configuration for each of the applications they host for clients. They see a great application experience as a result, which is driving high customer satisfaction. Plus cost savings are significant due to the flexible Kemp metered licensing model. A benefit that Wowrack passes on to their customers.

Wowrack customers also have the benefit that they can now do a self-service deployment of new LoadMaster Virtual Machines themselves as required. This is an automated process that slashes deployment times and reduces the workload on the Wowrack team.

The security built into LoadMaster, with Edge Security Pack (ESP) and Web Application Firewall (WAF), delivers enhanced end-to-end application security. Which helps Wowrack deliver compliance with the regulations they operate within.
