A Reverse Proxy is a service that sits between applications or content servers and clients requesting access to the backend servers. Clients requesting access are directed to the Reverse
Proxy. The Reverse Proxy then queries the backend servers instead of the clients interacting with them directly. This helps secure the back end servers, as the only network connections they need to have opened are from controlled servers within the same
organisation.
