Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is Microsoft’s secure web server platform for hosting web based services and applications. It was formally known as Internet Information Server, but is now renamed as a service to reflect that it can be hosted on several types of Windows Server from the Nano version and up. IIS deployments on a par with Apache, but the latter has more active deployments by a wide margin. IIS is used for a lot of deployments that use the Microsoft toolset to develop applications.
