Dell Inc. is a privately owned multinational information technology hardware, software, and services company. It was founded in 1984 by Michael Dell in the USA as an IBM compatible PC supply business. The business grew quickly and went multinational in 1987 when it opened a UK division. Success in the PC market was followed by success in the server, storage, and other IT sectors by means of organic growth and strategic acquisition. In 2013 the company was removed from the publicly traded stock market and went private with Silver Lake Partners as a major private equity investor, and Michael Dell as CEO. Dell Inc. continues to lead the industry in IT hardware provision and also provides a comprehensive portfolio of software and services solutions for its Enterprise and consumer customers.
