Control Plane

On a network the Control Plane is the layer that has the components that are responsible for network traffic paths, and for building a picture of the network topology. On traditional networks this is done by building and sharing network tables. In software defined networks this functionality is decoupled from the physical devices and performed by SDN Controllers.
