Computerized Prescription Order Entry (CPOE)

A Computerized Prescription Order Entry (CPOE) allows a clinician to directly enter medication orders, test results and procedure orders, directly into a computer system, which then transmits the order directly to the pharmacy or other healthcare provider to administer to the patient. A CPOE removes the need for a paper record, thus reducing the administrative overhead and the possibility of clinical error.
