The Al Manhal Water Factory in Saudi Arabia, a subsidiary of Nestle Waters, has installed Kemp server load balancing appliances to deliver high availability and optimised performance for its Microsoft Exchange email services. With an annual capacity of over 200 million litres of drinking water to meet the demands of some 25,000 homes and offices and 2,500 retail outlets, fast and efficient communications are critical for the smooth running of this growing business. The pair of Kemp LoadMaster LM-2200s now ensures that up to 700 Al Manhal email users are automatically connected to the best performing MS Exchange email server. Like many mid-size enterprises adopting server load balancing for the first time, one of the key drivers for Al Manhal Water Factory was the changes Microsoft made to its Exchange 2010 core server architecture, including the use of Exchange Client Access Server (CAS) to handle client connections. These changes mean that Microsoft now recommends the use of additional hardware or virtual load balancing to get the best performance and reliability from its Exchange email services.
The Kemp LoadMasters are designed to get the most out of advanced messaging applications and protocols used by Exchange 2010, including Outlook Web Access, Outlook Anywhere, ActiveSync, SMTP, POP3 and IMAP and RPC Client Access (Native MAPI). In addition, processor intensive SSL encryption is also offloaded from the Client Access Server CPUs to further increase speed and performance.
