Microsoft DirectAccess Load Balancing Tips and Tricks


DirectAccess provides seamless and transparent, always on remote network connectivity for Windows 10, Windows 8.x, and Windows 7 clients. It provides a superior remote access experience compared to traditional client-based VPN, requiring no interaction from the user. On-premises applications and data are accessed in the same familiar way regardless if the user is in the office or not. DirectAccess connections are bidirectional, enabling IT administrators to more effectively manage corporate-owned devices that are predominantly field-based.

Load Balancing DirectAccess

DirectAccess servers can be configured in load-balanced clusters to eliminate crucial single points of failure to provide the highest level availability for the remote access solution. In addition, load balancing provides important scalability for DirectAccess, allowing for additional servers to be provisioned to increase capacity, if required.

DirectAccess and KEMP LoadMaster

The KEMP LoadMaster load balancer can be configured to integrate with DirectAccess to meet the load balancing needs for DirectAccess deployments large and small. It offers important advantages over native load balancing, including support for larger DirectAccess server clusters (up to 32 nodes), intelligent and granular traffic distribution, and enhanced visibility.
