File Transfer Protocol over SSL/TLS (FTPS) provides a TLS secured version of the FTP protocol. FTP allows for the transfer of files between computers on an IP network. FTPS is a secure version that encrypts the transfers using TLS (formally SSL but that is not supported now as TLS is more secure).
Not to be confused with SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) which is an extension to the SSH remote command protocol to allow for the secure transfer of files within an SSH session. FTPS does not use SSH.
