The term Unix is used to describe a group of operating systems that are all derived or modelled on the original AT&T Unix system that was developed in the 1970’s at Bell Labs. There are many Unix derivatives in use today. They include BSD, all the Linux distributions, Apple OS X, and Oracle Solaris.
