Uniform Resource Locator (URL)

Uniform Resource Locator (URL) provides a reference to a resource on the Internet. The most common type is the web address of a site, for example, https://kemptechnologies.com, which is the secure HTTPS URL for our home page. Other types of URL include the insecure HTTP type, which really shouldn't be used, FTP for File Transfer Protocol URLs, and other resources published on the Internet or private IP-based networks. Each URL must specify how to address a resource and what protocol to use to communicate with the server that hosts it. The URL is a particular type of Uniform Resource Identifier (URI), and the IETF which controls the specifications for Internet-based protocols prefers to use URI combined with Uniform Resource Name (URN) to identify specific objects. However, a URL is simply a URI & URN combination that points to a resource on a network and their use is ubiquitous on the web.
