Replication

Replication is the process of copying data, configuration files, and even copies of complete servers from a primary location to a secondary backup location. The process can be performed within a single server, within a data center, or globally from a data center to any other data center or Cloud location either over the Internet or a private network. Replication of this type is an integral part of Disaster Recovery strategies to ensure there is a copy of the business IT systems available to use that is separate from the primary location. Additionally, replication is a core part of hybrid Cloud infrastructure solutions and Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB) so that users can access copies of the data and applications from the location that will be fastest for them at any time. In the latter case, there is usually synchronization of data and information across sites, rather than straight replication from one site to another.
