Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF)

MTBF is another KPI for tracking how long an item is likely to function before it needs to be repaired. It differs from MTTF in that the things it is tracking do not need to be replaced, but instead they can be repaired and serviced to extend use for another period. This KPI metric is used to allow for planned maintenance. MTBF can be thought off as a ‘best before date’ for equipment. Operation after the MTBF date is operationally risky and should be avoided.
