EV Extended Validation Certificates

An Extended Validation Certificate (EV) is an X.509 public key certificate that is issued to validated organisations for use with their web applications. The EV does not provide any additional security for data as it crosses the network between server and client. Both EV and non-EV public certificates use the same encryption and security mechanisms. However, the EV certificates are only issued to validated organisations after a rigorous identity assurance and verification process is completed. Browsers that access sites with EV certificates in use display the organisation name in a green colour and with a padlock, to signify that there is an EV certificate in use. People accessing the site can then be assured that the site is genuine and not an imposter.
