Buffer

In computing a buffer is a portion of a devices physical memory that is set aside as a temporary storage location for an application to use for data that is not being sent or received from another location. For example, transmission over the network or saving to a permanent storage device. Poor management of buffers in applications can often be exploited via Buffer Overflow attacks.
