Common Access Card Authentication

A Common Access Card (CAC) is a smart card issued by the US Department of Defense (DoD) to military personnel, civilian employees, and eligible contractors. It is the authentication token used for access to DoD sites and buildings, and also for access to DoD computer systems as part of a two-factor authentication procedure. CAC authentication is the methodology used to deliver this security functionality. It uses PKI based security certificates and encryption to confirm a valid users identity before granting access to any requests for physical or digital resources.   KEMP LoadMaster supports integration into DoD protected networks via the Edge Security Pack (ESP). In addition, ESP also allows integration with Active Directory and interacts with CAC security via X.509 certificates and Kerberos in a highly secure and standard way. LoadMaster supports the full two-step security process that CAC requires during both Authentication and Authorization steps.
