Content Management System (CMS)

Content Management System (CMS) is a term used to define software suites that allow the publishing and management of digital content to websites and other digital repositories. No strict definition says what a CMS should include. In most cases, when the term is used, it refers to tools that give people, especially non-technical content creators, the ability to post content to public websites and private Intranet sites. The term Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS) is sometimes used for tools designed to publish to corporate sites. Content for a CMS is typically text, pictures, videos, and files that are created in standard corporate tools such as Microsoft Office which can then be published with no knowledge of web page standards such as HTML. CMS systems also allow for version control and archiving of previous versions. Some familiar examples of CMS systems include WordPress, DNN Platform, Moodle, and Sitecore.
