Every quarter the Unified Comms Birmingham User Group (UCBUG), meet to talk about their favourite subjects: Lync, Office 365 and Microsoft Exchange. UCBUG was founded a year ago with the intention of bringing TechEd quality sessions and speakers to a wider UK audience. Past events have featured MVP speakers from across Europe as well as KEMP’s very own Carl Holt.
The next UCBUG event is on February 11th at 6PM. UCBUG will welcome Exchange MVPs Steve Goodman from Ciber, Inc, and Brian Reid from C7 Solutions along with blogger Graham Copley, who is the Lync Architect at Trinity. Steve and Brian have just finished collaborating on Microsoft Press’ exam preparation book for the Exchange 2013 MCSE exam 70-342 and will be presenting two Exchange related sessions.
Brian Reid will be tackling a subject that many consultants encounter – migrating between Exchange server versions at speed. A fast migration between Exchange versions is often a holy grail, but can be thwart with issues. These range from log disks filling up during the migration, insufficient performance available from incorrectly specified load balancers to not testing properly before beginning a fast migration. As a regular speaker at MEC and TechEd, a Microsoft’s Masters program trainer and both an MCM and MCSM, there’s very little Brian doesn’t know about Exchange. So come out and join him on his home turf in the Midlands.
Office 365 is changing rapidly and it’s hard to keep up with everything that’s new and coming along. In Steve Goodman’s session he will talk through what’s new and of note in Office 365 today and what’s coming down the road soon that you should watch out for and consider deploying. Steve is currently a consultant working primarily on Office 365 projects and understands the many challenges that are encountered on migrations and where these improvements will help
UCBUG isn’t just about local MVPs getting up on stage. It’s also a great chance for these consultants to share their real world experiences. Regular blogger and Lync Architect Graham Copley will be making his debut on stage at UCBUG at February’s meet up. Graham will be speaking about Lync On-Premises versus Lync Online – “Bringing the Cloud Back down to Earth.” Learn about the major difference between Microsoft’s cloud offerings and the full Lync Server. Graham will discuss VDI, SharePoint and help you understand what’s really possible with third party Lync hosted solutions that work with Office 365.
Each UCBUG event welcomes first-time attendees as well as regulars. The evening usually begins with a quick word from group leaders Andrew, Jason or Steve, and then dives straight into the technical content.
But wait! There’s more! One lucky attendee will go home with a copy of Brian and Steve’s new book “Exam Ref 70-342 – Advanced Solutions of Microsoft Exchange 2013.” An even luckier attendee will leave with a brand new Asus Transformer Book. The luckiest attended of all will leave with an NFR KEMP Virtual Loadmaster license.
After every UCBUG, the group moves next door to the pub for a few drinks around 9PM. Even if you don’t drink alcohol it’s still worth joining the group. It’s a great opportunity to collaborate or ask questions about the migration you are planning.
You can sign up for the February 11th meet up of UCBUG at www.ucbug.co.uk. UCBUG is held in Central Birmingham, UK at the Priory Meeting Rooms, just off Corporation Street and next door to the Square Peg. Parking at available at a discount rate of £5 for the evening.
