John Becker, Chairman
With more than 30 years of industry expertise, Mr. Becker is a seasoned technology executive with strong operational and financial skills, who has demonstrated a tremendous track record of success through his leadership, vision and understanding of strategic market issues.
Mr. Becker is currently a member of the Board of Directors of SourceFire (NASDAQ: FIRE) and KEMP Technologies, Inc.
Mr. Becker was Chief Executive Officer of Approva Corporation a leading provider of continuous controls monitoring (CCM) software that enables Fortune 1000 companies to manage risk, reduce fraud, streamline audits, and lower regulatory compliance costs. During a period of global financial crisis, Mr. Becker successfully restructured the company, raised capital and implemented a new product direction which led to the eventual sale of the company to Lawson Software, an Infor affiliate, in September 2011. Approva's product "Approva One" set the standard against which prospects, competitors & analysts evaluated continuous control monitoring solutions and was implemented and used by three of the five largest audit and advisory firms as well as approximately 200 of the world's largest companies.
Prior to Approva, Mr. Becker was active in the technology sector as an advisor, board member, consultant, and angel investor working with a variety of venture capital firms and technology companies.
Mr. Becker was previously Chief Executive Officer of Cybertrust the leading global information security specialist acquired by Verizon Business in July of 2007. Mr. Becker's vision of creating a global services platform became a reality in November of 2004 when Cybertrust was formed through a merger of TruSecure and BeTrusted. John orchestrated the complex merger, managed the global integration of the merged entities and rationalized the organization structure and offerings. Within two years, Cybertrust became the worldwide trusted specialist in information security services recognized for innovation, quality and thought leadership.
Prior to Cybertrust, Mr. Becker was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TruSecure Corporation an information security products and services organization.
Prior to TruSecure, Mr. Becker was an Entrepreneur in Residence for the venture capital firm of Warburg Pincus where he assisted the firm in analyzing the security market for potential investment.
Mr. Becker was previously Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of AXENT Technologies, Inc. (AXENT), a publicly traded information security software and services company. Mr. Becker was instrumental in leading AXENT from start-up in December of 1994, to an initial public offering in April of 1996 and finally the sale of AXENT to Symantec Corporation for approximately $1 billion. Under Mr. Becker's leadership, AXENT was consistently recognized for achieving operational and financial excellence as a Deloitte & Touche Technology Fast 50 and a Fast 500 award winner.
Prior to joining AXENT, Mr. Becker served on the senior management team at Raxco, Inc. as Executive Vice President of Operations and Chief Financial Officer. Prior to Raxco, Mr. Becker held various financial management positions with Marriott International Corporation and WorldCom.
Mr. Becker is a Certified Public Accountant and received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from University of Richmond.
Lenard Marcus, Edison Ventures, Board Member
Lenard Marcus is a member of the Virginia, Maryland and Washington DC investment team for Edison Ventures, identifying and evaluating investment opportunities. Lenard participates in due diligence and structuring investments. His responsibilities include market research, technology assessment and financial analysis.
Lenard began his career at IBM where he worked as a Financial Analyst for IBM Global Services. His main responsibilities were overseeing a budget of $80 million and partnering with international locations to decrease the project costs of IBM Global Services West. Later, Lenard worked for Princeton eCom—an online bill payment company—where, as Manager of B2C Implementations, he oversaw one of the largest joint ventures in the company's history. Lenard also worked in healthcare investment banking for Wachovia Securities.
Lenard has a BS, Industrial Engineering, from Stanford University and an MBA, Columbia Business School, concentration in Finance and Management.
Eric Filipek, Kennet Capital
Since 2000, Eric has led Kennet's investment efforts in vertical software and enterprise SaaS business models.
Eric is a board member of software-based Application Distribution Controller KEMP Technologies, e-discovery software company Recommind and education SaaS vendor Schoolwires. He managed and successfully exited systems management software company Netpro (acquired by Quest Software), compliance software company Consul Risk Management (acquired by IBM) and storage chip vendor Aarohi (acquired by Emulex).
Before joining Kennet, Eric was a Principal in Broadview's New York office, where he worked on approximately 50 M&A transactions involving communications equipment, systems management and enterprise software companies.
Prior to joining Broadview in 1994, Eric worked as a product marketing engineer at Intel Corporation. He has a BS degree from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Bill Bishop, ORIX Venture Finance
William Bishop has led East Coast originations for ORIX Venture Finance since May 2003.
Previously, he was the top producer at both GATX Ventures and Transamerica Technology Finance, with combined investments exceeding $225 million. Bill has produced consistent transaction volume with high quality venture-backed technology companies located primarily in the eastern United States. His transactions have spanned multiple debt instruments, including senior loans, working capital, subordinated growth capital, and bridge financing in combination with all levels of companies (Series A, B, C or beyond).
Prior to entering the venture capital arena, Bill was a successful commercial financial director working at AT&T Capital and SNET Capital.
He earned a BA from Babson College, and is completing an MBA at the University of Connecticut.
Ray Downes, CEO
Ray has worked in the I.T sector for over 20 years. During that time he held a number of executive & operational management positions with global companies like Cabletron Systems, Enterasys and In 2002 he was co-founder at Arrosys Ltd, a European based Sales & Marketing agency. Ray joined KEMP Technologies in 2010 to head up International expansion and was appointed CEO in early 2012
